Thank you for support!!!

We sincerely thank you for signing our recent e-petition to hold the Polish government to its environmental commitments regarding the routing of the Via Baltica expressway. Together we are making a difference!

In the few weeks since launching the action, over 10 000 people have signed a letter addressed to the Polish prime minister, demanding a stop to the development of road projects that will undermine results from the Council of Europe’s Strategic Environmental Assessment.

Your voice joins 150 000 Polish citizens who asked the Polish president to suspend the start of construction work through the Rospuda Valley of northeast Poland, the most pristine natural site in danger along the Via Baltica route. A few days ago, in response to the petition, Poland’s president commented on his website that: “If this is a case where a mistake was made in the past, if any important elements were omitted then it is better to rethink the decision”.

And more promising news has emerged. The European Commission has launched legal action against Poland for breaching the nature directives with projects linked to the Via Baltica Helsinki-Warsaw road corridor, including the Augustow Bypass through the Rospuda Valley.

This case is developing and we are determined to keep up the momentum.

Your solidarity is very much appreciated and we count on your future support.

All the best,

The Via Baltica Campaign team,

Polish Society for the Protection of Birds (Birdlife Poland), Polish Green Network (Bankwatch Poland), WWF Poland
